those two games were.(http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl...107/index.html)
fernabache 0 - 2 chelsea
arsenal 2 - 4 liverpool

can you subtract those 8 goals and see what you get. just to compare like with like.
Erm....that's why I said I divided this years by 6 and last years by 8.

You really don't understand what average means do you?

semi-finals are hard to predict

United's last two finished 5-3 and 1-0 for example

2.5 per game I make that

last season the other semi had an average of below 2 per game, and the year before it was significantly lower

similarly, most finals have 3 goals or less - the vast majority of them across all major competitions in fact

CL last year? 1-1
League Cup this year? 0-0
FA Cup last year? 1-0

etc

Were this a piece of work/report an average to date (31 games) could/should be given with a warning of sorts. A proxy extrapolated from x number of games. You don't always compare like with like so long as a bit of context is given.

Since the average is unlikely to be affected significantly I'd argue a comparison to previous years data is fine.
Marlo knows all this. He just prefers to argue the most minor of points that will have no bearing rather than admit he was wrong.

I actually deleted (to date) out of the original post because it made my list look untidy.

well on your basis we would need everything to be identical season on season to provide a workable average

same players, weather, pitch conditions, order of fixtures

attention to detail is main quality an accountant should possess.

you haven't got a point. you're just ignoring what everyone else recognises as a pretty comprehensive case.
