Cool Sunday dinner thread 2019

Usually do a roast but trying to make a slow cooked Steak pie today.

Beef rolled in flour seasoned with salt and pepper, added to sauteed onions and 600ml beef stock. Couple of chopped potatoes too.

2 hours in the oven on 150, then I'll attempt to roll the pastry and put it together. That's where it could all go wrong.

To be served with roasties, veg and gravy.

On roast chicken today with roast potatoes done in goose fat with carrots and leeks from the garden.

Usually have a different meat from the butcher every week, topside, a cut of lamb or a rolled pork joint. Occasionally if it's in season a pheasant.

Agreed. I've taken to grating them if I'm making something like that or a cottage pie, they melt into the gravy then.

nothing worse than biting into a pie and then peeling away a huge strip of flopping onion hanging out your mouth.

Onions should be diced or as you say, grated.

Yeah, might dice them next time. Was planning to but the recipe called for sliced so I blindly followed instruction.

Still looks good. It was more a suggestion than a criticism.

Take no notice Switchers, onions will be fine, especially if sauteed first. potatoes however may disintegrate into nothing, though at 150 you should be ok
