which they may do... but right now it ain't going to happen for them. top 4 is the best they can hope for.
You've a short memory. In the mid-90s, the were quite a number of times I heard that "United had bought the league through buying up all the top players", and that "everyone hates United because they're so rich".

And playing Devil's advocate, I can think of at least half-a-dozen times United have broken the transfer record, even before the PL (and therefore football) started, either outright or for that position.

Some of you really need to wake the £#%&! up.
Right, namely, Barca and Real, plus a few others (Inter, Milan, etc). They just happen to have history and tradition. Now look at the players who basically laughed in City's face: Kaka, Buffon, Robinho, a few others.

If you think history & tradition mean £#%&! all, you're forgetting that top players want bragging rights among each other. That means Real and Barca primarily, plus United, Chelsea, Inter, Milan, and possibly a few more. It's not like they list the past glories and histories to each other - they just know that if you're playing for one of those clubs, it validates your standing in world football.

Now, City may well get there - but THIS City squad isn't going to do it. And it won't be nearly as easy as you seem to think to poach players that the likes of Barca and Real really want.

How can City offer anyone the best chance of silverware BEFORE the really top players go there?

they'll win something eventually if they have an established team by the time the fair play rules come into place. expect them to finish ahead of us in the table at some point as well.

depressing as it sounds, but imagine having a manchester derby in the champions league final.

Title?

I'm not even sure they'll finish 4th looking at how good Spurs will be again.

People underestimate Spurs and forget how many important players have been injured since the start of the season. They have a hell of a squad which has allowed to compete well in the CL and League despite missing some big players.

They could be title challengers next season along with City assuming the Bitters get rid of Mankini and get some more players with invention.

spurs will never be title challengers unless they too become a rich man's plaything, in which they could do better than the massive club are doin right now with all their money, as they now have the champion's league experience city don't

we just have to pray they hold out until the uefa rules come into place, otherwise city will be unstoppable and will probably have a league winning squad by then.

Spurs have money and have bought intelligently, they're not far off a title challenging squad.

Spurs have a better squad than Citeh..

Judging by the figures City released this week it may be that Mr Mansour has just wasted several billions on this nothing club that can't even get into Europes top comp and even if they do will not be granted access...

We'll be in a European Cup final again soon enoughnext couple of seasons), some great young players here.

Cast your mind back to December 2005, would you believe 3 years later we'd have been in 2 european cup finals?

how amazing would it be though?

they finally think they're going to be champions of europe, and as a result of beating the "dirty rag scum" as well, basically everything their dreams are made of.

then they lose at the death. it'll be like moscow 2008 all over again. or even the carling cup semi finals this year

let's face it, with liverpool being shit and leeds going MIA they are now our biggest rivals. and the rivalry can only get bigger in the next few years.

they do have a good squad, they're just one world class player short of providing a title threat IMO.

and they have spent a lot but compared to chelsea or city?

Sorry, but they will never be our biggest rivals - no matter how many trophies they corruptly steal

That honour is reserved for the Vermin and *always* will be. Doesn't matter if they go bust, get relegated or whatever - as long as they simply exist that will remain the case

i kinda rephrased that the wrong way. i meant, the massives will be our biggest match as out of our 3 traditional rivals they now have the best team and pose the biggest threat.

if the bin dippers keep up their shite form, they'll be fighting for a promotion playoff spot in the championship with our good mates from elland road in a few season's time
