The Rooney contract didn't help, but the club has to take much more responsibility beyond agreeing the Moysie recommendation.
Not buying many players was part of the problem tbh. And one of those wasn't really his signing.

Confirm you believe the Rooney contract set us back a decade ?

Agree, but not buying enough players in one window doesn't set you back ten years.

Just in the context of decisions made under Moysie that was probably the worst one. Rooney had 18 months; should have left it alone with hindsight.

Our club became a laughing stock under Moyes. We lost our aura of invincibility that we'd spend 20 years building up.

Van Gaal's tenure, whilst not as hapless, contained just as many if not more humiliating results, compounded by the fact he wasted so much money on players that took us nowhere.

Next May it will have already been 5 years since we won a title, like I said it's set us back a decade.

We're taking tentative steps toward getting back to where we were, but it's still a huge jump to get out of this 5th, 6th place position we keep finding ourselves in.

Chelsea lost their aura under Mourinho and finished mid table. They were back to running away with the title the following year. Far too easy to lump it all on the Moyes appointment. It was a disaster, but there are many reasons for our decline.

I agree there were many reasons for the decline and Freggle wasn't immune - pure has a valid point. That said, Moyes was a disaster for us.

there are players from fergie's time all over the prem. some £#%&!ed off by other managers not fergie. he left a champion and walked the league really. he was so shit that united never finished below 3rd in his prem years.

Have got myself into trouble a few times with reds when suggesting Fergie's last side wasn't an ideal one for the impeding transition. As well as dealing with losing Ferguson and Gill, we pretty much had to build a whole new team quite quickly.

Woodward takes a lot of flack, but the club overall allowed a situation whereby the two men who ran the whole joint announced their departures in the springtime with seemingly no in-house preparation put in place for what happens next.

Take a look at the list of names in the boardroom and there's your answer. It reads like a Glazer family bar mitzvah invitation list, there isn't a single person in there with any experience of running a football club or even working in one.
