It's only a few weeks ago that the current lot decided it would be a good idea to keep Lingard against his will, rather than get him the £#%&! out of here in exchange for actual money.

they put directors of football in place (just the wrong £#%&!ing ones) if they get the right manager in with a Van der sar and Rangnick, they might get it right? they spent enough money recently

Appointment could take ‘several weeks’.

So we’ll string this guy along before he gets pissed off and goes to Madrid 👍

Would be funny if ten hag and Pochettino both end up elsewhere and the board are scratching their arses around may . Will probably end up giving it to rangnick as interim until dec for when the WC finished or some press release shite like that

It won't be funny and that's precisely what will happen. Club will probably be begging Carrick to come back.

They’ll give it to Ralf if it saves them employing another stooge and then say it’s another stage of his interimness, so we better not sign any players in haste

Personally I think no manager can save the club. The owners and Board lack ambition and control the club too much. Ten hag would be brilliant for United. But he just wouldn’t be backed . Hope I’m proven wrong but I just can’t see them turning around.

On top of that it would take 2-3 years to establish a platform and build on top. No manager would be given the time.

Ideally ralf then walks. The club needs to be shaken up, the status quo changed.

It's like a parallel universe where we haven't been one of the top spenders in Europe for the past decade.

ETH would be a success if:

1. The club give him limitless cash

2. Authorise him to bin ANY player not performing

3. Complete autonomy on signings

None of those things is going to happen.

Limitless cash isn’t a requirement. Being able to buy the right players regardless of profile, nature of the deal, who their agent is, who else is bidding, their contract position etc. is the key.

And having a very good scouting system, obviously.

4. Bring in Stam for extra hardness
5. Shine his head up real bright and aim a floodlight at it to dazzle keepers

So we are agreed then
It's the business done by the club this summer, not the name of the manager, which will determine what we can expect of next season.

Backing is more than here’s a load of money. Ole had VDB bought for him. He clearly didn’t want him. Having the board give you players you don’t want. Not get the ones you do want. Back in Jose’s case not even selling the players he wanted to.

It’s more than just “money” also notice how it’s done. They usually make the top 4 don’t spend then finish outside the top for and spend .

Happened to LVG and Jose . And it happened to ole .

Having a year to sign Sancho. Having Fred forced on Jose. Having VDB forced on ole .

Backing is more than just throwing money at a problem. It’s having confidence in giving the manager the control to do what he wants and how to implement it.

The board lack the ambition to want to finish top and compete. Their aim is top 4 so he gets “backed” to get top 4 and nothing more

See the above stuff you are taking wild guesses at.

Great.
