Reports coming out of Italy have claimed Manchester United are favourites to sign Udinese midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah, who is also wanted by Juventus.

Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to bolster his midfield this summer with both defensive and creative additions.

Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa is expected to arrive at Old Trafford in the coming weeks and Ferguson will reportedly turn his attentions to the signing of a more defensive-minded player once the deal for the Japan star is complete.

It was reported by Gazzetta dello Sport two weeks ago that United had an original bid of €12 million rejected for Asamoah with Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo unwilling to accept anything less than the club’s asking price; reported to be €15 million.

However, another Italian source, Sky Italia, has today claimed United have now opened talks with the Serie A side over a potential deal for the Ghana midfielder, which would indicate the two clubs are nearing an agreement.

Sky Italia also understands that Juventus are interested in Asamoah, but they are currently struggling to match United’s proposal; putting the Premier League giants in pole position for his signature.

He seemed to be running forward with & without the ball which is something he'll soon have coached out of him.

remember watching djemba djemba playing for his country in some football tournie and thinking surely he is better than this, absolute shite and did not improve after joining us either.
