Would still sack him even with hindsight. It set a precedent for slow managerial starts. Regardless of what came later.

Very good that
Amazing to see OT so empty

Interesting point by Greaves
That obsession for a league title probably was one of the major reasons why we didn’t win one for 26 years

That's just how football was.

Still had the highest attendances in the league.

Goes back to 1958, Walter Crickmer was due to take over the running of the club having successfully reformed the club post war. He died at Munich which paved the way for Louis Edwards to join. In the late 70's Busby was in line for chairman with his son elected to the board. Edwards croaked it as he was about to be investigated for a lot of irregularities not to mention scamming board members out of shares, Martin took over and put the kibosh on both Sandy and Matt.

In the modern era Edwards was close to selling to Knighton before that fell down (it was Knighton's ideas, implemented by the club which increased the revenues and modernised the club), the PLC was launched not long after.
We then we went from the Coolmore takeover to them selling out to the Glazers after a row about horse spaff. The most realistic takeover option these days is the Saudi government ffs, cursed we are.

Nice piece from Andy Mitten. Not sure if hes being snarky here

Quote:
On Friday he attended the annual dinner of the club’s disabled supporters association and spoke with passion and knowledge about Manchester United. He received a sustained standing ovation.
Impressive.

Don’t think he’s being snarky.

The disabled supporters club were probably buzzing that the manager attended instead of David May.

The singing section/happy clappers were the same people behind Moyes.

I’d say it’s a mixture of optimism and acceptance of the position the clubs in that’s keeping the wolves from the door.
