Food prices

Cans of soup in Tesco yesterday - £1.40. Were 95p last week.

Anyone noticed any other mad ones?

We went to Cyprus a few weeks back and since we got home I feel like I'm loaded. Paid €5:75 for a block of lurpak over there.

Costa: £3.10 to £3.70

I’ve been chatting to my parents about inflation in the 70’s to get an idea how they lived with it.

Seems to have boiled down to moaning to other strangers in shops about prices.

Price of those little bottles of wine up by 10% last night too.

Was reading Warren Buffet's 1979 letter to shareholders the other day. He was talking about insurance companies only writing 6 month car insurance policies as they didn't have enough visibility on claims inflation to write annual policies.

The worst thing about visiting the Mrs family out there is the constant stench of fresh coffee. It’s everywhere. Cafes that sell nothing but those tiny pointless ones, that I can’t ever imagine being refreshing or satisfying. I go full tourist and slurp slush puppies when I have to go with them.

I did make a post in another thread though that I’m starting to get irritated by the constant price increases. Seems every other week I go in and I’m caught out by something costing more than I expected.

M&S do this 3 items for £7 deal on cooked meats, chicken, nibbles etc....now gone up to £8

The chippy is a bit dearer as well

Oh that’s another one. Was starving while in the city recently and wanted fried chicken - walked in to a place that looked a bit grim tbh and was stunned to see a 3 piece chicken meal for near enough a tenner.

2 litres of milk, cost £1 in our local Co-op a few months back, now £1.70.

Good to see the price of petrol tumbling again now the price of crude oil is back down to where it was in February.

Wife wishes Heinz soup, beans etc

My mum was telling me that Lurpak spreadable is now something like £7 a pack, is that true?

We’re starting to notice a difference here slightly but we’re a lot more savvy these days.

I normally buy 2 x 4 pint (or whatever they are) bottle of milk at a time, they have usally been 2 for £2.30ish at the local COOP or Spar, £3 now!!

It's a f***ing joke.

Heaven forbid these multi billion dollar companies like Heinz take a penny less in profits. Oh no, i'm afraid we're just going to have to charge the plebs more, we can't have our shareholders not being able to fuel their yachts.

I get milk and butter from the milkman and it hasn't gone up...yet. butcher has put his prices up a quid a kilo on pretty much everything.

Of course the plebs will be squeezed.

Tatty is invariably wrong and out of line but he’s right that ownership of things will be eroded.

Those lucky enough to own their own home and don’t have to sell it to pay for care fees will be lucky to hold on to it

Unsure why anyone would shop at co op or spar, the very local small convenience stores have always been 20/30p more than big supermarkets for ever...

I’m no Einstein type, but I’d say the word ‘convenience’ gives a hint as to why.

It’s the value for money equation, innit?

Anyway, at £1, the milk in the Co-op used to be 20p or more cheaper than Tesco.
