Qatar 2022 World Cup organisers 'appalled' by work conditions

Qatar 2022 World Cup organisers say they are "appalled" by the findings of an investigation into the treatment of migrant workers in the country.
The Guardian reported Nepalese workers in Qatar "face exploitation and abuses that amount to modern-day slavery".
Tournament organisers says the Qatari government will study the allegations, while Fifa says it is "very concerned".
A Qatari statement read: "There is no excuse for any worker in Qatar to be treated in this manner."
The Guardian investigation claims:
At least 44 workers died between 4 June and 8 August because of heart-related issues or workplace accidents
That there is some evidence of forced labour on a major World Cup infrastructure project
Nepalese men have not been paid for months, with salaries retained and passports confiscated to limit their movements
Access to free drinking water on construction sites has been denied on some occasions
The statement from World Cup organisers continued: "The health, safety, well-being and dignity of every worker that contributes to staging

Was reading about that this morning on the Grauniad. Absolultey mental.

There was some 16 year old lad who went over and came back in a coffin a few weeks later. 'Heart attack'.

Qatar is facing growing international pressure to act against the growing death toll of migrant workers preparing for the 2022 World Cup as unions warned another 4,000 people could die in the Gulf emirate before a ball is kicked.

Workers described forced labour in 50C heat, employers who retain salaries for several months and passports making it impossible for them to leave and being denied free drinking water. The investigation found sickness is endemic among workers living in overcrowded and insanitary conditions and hunger has been reported. Thirty Nepalese construction workers took refuge in the their country's embassy and subsequently left the country, after they claimed they received no pay.

Time for everyone to boycott this fiasco.

You have to admire the absolute "don't give a f***ness" about Blatter.

When 2022 rolls around he'll be either dead or have the mental capacity of a walnut. What the f*** does he care, he'll live out his remaining years in comfort and luxury and reminisce about his years riding the football gravy train.

Tbf to the Qataris, they paid out so much in bribes to Fifa officials to get the thing in the first place, its no surprise they cant pay the workers.

I'm no fan of Blatter (Christ no ) but he was actually against Qatar all along, this is more Platini's baby tbh

As you said before, it's time the various big football nations got together and just openly declared that they will be boycotting this farce.

Obviously if none of them take part it will be a clear path for england to win it.
