Manchester United need a full-back.
Arsenal have a full-back to spare.
Naturally, on transfer deadline day, 1+1= 3 and now Manchester United are interested in Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy, who has been looking for a move away from the Emirates throughout January.
According to L’Equipe’s Bruno Constant on Twitter, Louis Van Gaal and co. have targeted the former Newcastle star as a right-back option for the remainder of the season, but their rivals might take some convincing.
The French journalist also says he’s unsure whether Arsenal would want to just let Debuchy go to Old Trafford on loan, and a full transfer could be more appealing to Arsène Wenger.
Debuchy has only made seven appearances for the Gunners this season, totalling a rather disappointing 512 minutes of football, and with the 2016 Euros on the horizon this summer, a move away is desperately needed if he is to make Didier Deschamps’ squad.
With very little strength in depth in their full-back positions at the moment, Manchester United are looking rather desperate, and this could be the panic buy everyone has been expecting them to make this month.
Furthermore, it looks like Genoa are still pushing for a deal for United’s Guillermo Varela, who last played against Derby in the FA Cup on Friday.
