de Vrij looked a class above Indi tbh, but no idea who LVG will go after to replace Vidic and Rio. He does prefer a right/left combination in the middle though.

Assume this move will see the Porto lad move to Citeh?

Seems the most popular Christian name in Holland is United Target.

Seems like we're watching at least 3 central defenders with a view to signing one in January. Vlaar, Indi, garay. Probably a midfielder as well. Hopefully Vidal instead of strootman. Supposedly watching that Perez though.

Probably intending to try for hummels and a right back in the summer. We could do with a right sided attacker for the 433 formation.

Next 10 months will be interesting.

He's started pretty well with Porto, although apparently still makes mistakes.

If we've still got lots of money I reckon someone like Laporte at Bilbao is more likely.

If we spend it like we did in summer then surely Varane would be ideal.

Frighting. The first two were members of the Dutch defence which he didn't rate going into the tournament and the other is meant to be having a stinker in Russia (decent defender though).

We need to replace with quality not shite.

Out of interest. It's January, we need a centre back, who would you go for? Taking into account that if he's from another league there will be a few game bedding in process.

Go.

Tough one, not many decent options available especially in January.

Which is probably why a stop gap that already knows his methods, and who hopefully will also be an organiser, makes sense. Vlaar isn't the long term solution, but he makes sense for a relatively cheap January signing. Assuming a top player won't be available until summer.

i did think vlaar would be a half decent stop gap

but unless he sees him as potentially more than that, now I think we should stick by mcnair and blackett along with the older heads we've got rather than confuse it even more with a stop gap

essentially the best we are going to get out of this season is top 4 and a good cup run and surely we must be capable of that?

It's influence and experience we're missing. I can't imagine Jones and Evans command much respect and teach defending values on the training ground. I also think Vlaar would be an ok addition. Questionable injury crisis but based on his PL experience and how he performed at the WC under van Gaal it's a decent short term solution. I wouldn't take much from his form at Villa. Top to bottom they're shite.

This is probably where a scouting system comes in useful, imo.

How many were bigging up Benatia of Udinese last year? Ideally the club have a scope wider than just lads we know a lot about
