In 1995 they lost the first leg of the European Cup semi final at home 0-1, then went to Greece and won to reach the final. Think they're the only side to turn around a first leg defeat at home in the semi final stage in the 50+ years history of the competition.
They utterly destroyed Real Madrid the following year at the Bernabeau. I've got that game on DVD. Seriously, they could have won by 7 or 8 that night. Stunning. Think they beat AC Milan at the San Siro that same season. After they returned from Japan having won the Intercontinental Cup, wasn't there something like 100,000 Ajax fans there to welcome the new world champions home? Fantastic side. |
