On the assumption that's true, I don't think he's amazing or anything, but it will be a clear indication of the lack of funds if we're not in for him at that price given mehktomineh is out of action for a while. He's one of the few half decent midfielders available at that price.

Don’t really believe these reports of a low price Wolves would take for him

He’s one of their best and most important players, why would they be trying to practically give him away

Dunno, but the price seems to have been low and dropping all summer

It all hinges on Lingard. We need to free up a space in the squad for an over 21 player to be registered.

We could de-register Jones? There must be opportunities in the club shop or catering for him.

That would be the sensible solution.

It’s not just frustrating that we haven’t got someone, but there’s some really good, affordable options we’re seemingly not interested in.

This guy is proven PL quality and exactly the type of player we need. Knows the league, knows Bruno and he has the Duane Pipers seal of approval.

£30m is an absolute snip for someone like him and we should be all over it.

He would instantly improve our midfield and therefore the team.

Verane and Sancho are really good signings, but they won't be enough to make up for the deficiencies in midfield.

I find it baffling that we aren't signing a couple of the good (and inexpensive) cm options who are apparently available. It would make the difference between a top 4 scrap and pushing for 2nd.

Are you really baffled?

We've spent our summer budget and now we have to sell players. We're not interested in winning the league any more. Top 4 will do.

This. We have a net spend of around £80m per summer. That’s it. We’ve done well to get the two we’ve got for what we’ve spent. Any given window, we need 4-5 players. We get 2-3. We’re always 2-3 players away from where we need to be and there’s no great urgency to bridge that gap. Just keep the CL money coming and big up the signings we do make.

Need a midfielder? Got to wait two transfer windows

Need two decent centre backs? Get one every 3 years.

Need a wide attacking player? see above.

Always the same.

Meanwhile City and Chelsea just go out there, sign what they need and continue to hoover up trophies.

City and Chelsea aren’t operating under the same set of rules.

Yep, we are the new Arsenal of the Emirates era. Top four secures the sponsorship and TV cash that the gimps want at a fraction of the cost of actually competing for the title itself.

Joel Glazer's promises were always going to be seen as meaningless without significant changes over the summer. Cut our losses on certain players by simply not having them stinking up the place, as Rio hinted at.

Neves in, get rid of Jones and Lingard.

We would arguably be in a much better position if the nonentities in the squad were given free transfers so we were down to a core of players we wanted and then pad that out with the kids.

Matic, Mata, Jones, Lingaard, Fred, Bailly, Dalot, James, Martial.

9 players off the top of my head we could let go without it impacting the first team.
