Football Yorke or Cole?

Who was the better of the two?

Been having an argument with myself about this.

Who did we get the bigger fee from Blackburn for?

That'll settle it.

Not many strikers have had a season as good as Yorke did in 98/99.

Cole did more over a longer period of time. If Yorke had maintained the level he reached during that one season, it would be a rather easy answer. But he didn't, so it's Andy Cole for me.

Was a weird signing at the time. Wasn't as if he was even that prolific.

Still, Cole wouldn't have got a look in had we signed Kluivert as well - as was the plan.

Yorke was the far better player.

Cole, because he played to a very high standard for a lot longer. York was fantastic in 1999 and the following season. But after that, he was finished as a top class player. Andy Cole took a season to settle into the United set, but was fantastic from the mid 90s. Also, I always felt that he got better as he got older.

Yorke: 120(32) apps 66 goals.

1 goal every 2.30 games.

Cole: 231(44) 121 goals.

1 goal every 2.27.

Almost idential strike rate.

Covers it really.

The joy was watching them as a partnership. The goal vs Barca is one of my favourite, absolutely magnificent.
