Scholes has been a great Utd player, but neither he nor Giggs has ever had that one season where they were without doubt the best player in the league never mind the world. Consistent, maintained excellence has been Scholes's strength. 2002/03 was probably his best season, 20 goals from midfield, hugely important role in our last title, but that year RVN with his 44 goals was our best player.
World select playing 4-4-2, 98-03, Scholes best years, even then it would have been a stretch to put him into a world select. His lack of impact on an international tournament will always be held against him over these awards.
