I don’t want Potter but neither would I dismiss him because he could actually be one of the better fits for us.
The reality is the new manager will have to work with an ownership structure that makes running the playing side of the club an almost impossible job. Potter has taken a mix of players, certainly not top level, and shaped them in to an effective unit that produces good football. And that’s where we are in terms of requirements for managerial skills. We can shout about being Manchester United all we want but the likes of Zidane aren’t going to work for us because our set-up doesn’t fit with their strengths. Yes, it’s ‘Graham Potter’ but we’re also an absolute mess that needs a Potter-type. |
