Maguires ability to bring the ball out of defence could help. Hopefully means the midfield doesn’t have to constantly come so deep to pick the ball up?

Remember (Fergie's "crap" period in the mid noughties) when the sages thought all our problems could be solved by changing the formation.

Good times

Okay so let's say that you, Jem, did understand it.

What qualities would you say Fergie had that you don't? Because so far, you sound like the better footballing brain.

Our O'Shea-Giggs midfield was probably more competent

Matic is a waste of time

also, anyone slating matic is a £#%&!wit. we don't have any better defensive midfielders. he could do with a couple of assistants. then play pogba behind martial and rashford.

no player is good enough if he has play on his own and the system is shit.
Is the right answer. Of course pogba looks shite when asked to track back and put tackles in, that's not his game never has been. You play your best players in their best position and his is further up the pitch, either in behind the strikers or coming from the left.

Jem has the limitless self confidence that can only come from being educated at a relatively minor public school

he could be arsed. I couldn't. otherwise, I would be better than mourinho. and more humble.

anyone could see that isolating ruud with his back to goal and two defenders on him was suboptimal. he wasn't a hughes-type player. there was always too big a gap to midfield. plus fergie had to play players out of position in his 4--5-1. scholes left wing for example. shameful.

surely, greater confidence would come from going to a supposedly good school? take eton, for example.

that's enough of trying to make the thread about me. the season has started.

Imagine those two walking statues Pogba and Matic in a two man midfield

You don't realise just how utterly shit this team is until people start trying to formulate the side.

Thumbs up

Not sure if mentioned but I still remember my reaction when I saw the midfield was Pip Neville and Veron.

Cracking game that.

some people still think veron was shit, because he lost the ball on the edge of the area against boro.

imagine judging pogba by those standards. I guess fergie did.

Horror show away to City too around Xmas 02 when Keane was out.

Veron just wasn’t suited to England as his 4 seasons showed.

Ah, it is Wolves away in the cup I was thinking of - he wasn't in midfield then?
