Default Nicky Butt gets the head of academy gig

http://www.theguardian.com/football/...ead-of-academy

The beginning of a hostile CO92 takeover of the club?

More likely a boost to the Mourinho in boys - he doesn't take a major interest in the academy stuff does he?

A) it doesn't need a 'revolution'

B) how exactly do you know what Nicky Butt is and isn't capable of?

agreed. Him and Giggs are the only credible ones. Scholes as well to an extent when he's not being a moaning arse.

Hope the Nevilles get ran over by a vespa on the streets of Balencia.

All of them are thick as £#%&! tbh and i wouldn't trust them to train a #@&%!er spaniel let alone a top footballer.

But whatevs.

I wouldn't call any of them thick tbf. They all seem fairly switched on for footballers.

Personally I didn't want an internal appointment I wanted us to appoint someone who is experienced and has an excellent track record as a head of youth development at a football club
Maybe Butt will be great appointment (although I doubt it) but I'm sure he's got the job because he's the cheap option

Oh and our youth setup badly needs to be revolutionised

Can see him doing a decent job. He seemed to be a bit more clued up than the lot of them on that programme when Giggs took over for a bit.
He's played in a European cup final, he's won trophies and he's a product of the clubs youth team.

My first thought was that this will mean Giggsy will get the managers job now. I thought 'head of accadamy' was nailed on for him when Louis gets binned off in summer.

So who did you want appointed? Name names please.

Oh and, it doesn't. It needs some changes, NQAT. Revolutionised? You're just saying things to make it look like you know what you're talking about.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. There is a wave of modernity in the approach to Academy-level coaching, and while I think 90% of it is very good, I think it could also be good to have the defenders at least trained in a more traditional style - i.e., learn to £#%&!ing defend first, before passing out of the back.

So it took them a year to evaluate that Nicky Butt, the guy who has been working with the academy since 2012, is the right man for the job?
