Default Emmerdale apologises over 'offensive' shopping list

Emmerdale apologises over 'offensive' shopping list
Tue Jul 27 12:31PM by Paul Johnston

ITV soap 'Emmerdale' has issued an apology after viewers complained about inappropriate terms that were written on a blackboard.

During last Friday night's episode a menu board in Marlon Dingle’s kitchen listed items including 'pile cream' and 'jam rags', a slang term for sanitary towels.

Vivienne Pattison of family values watchdog, Mediawatch, said: "Clearly whoever wrote that knew exactly what they were doing, and they certainly didn't need to.

"It's not a particularly helpful phrase to refer to sanitary towels as "jam rags", and it is unnecessary. It didn't need to be there at all."

In a statement, an Emmerdale spokesperson said: "A shopping list featured in the background of a scene on Friday’s episode of Emmerdale included colloquial terms that some viewers considered inappropriate.

"We are looking into the matter and we apologise to any viewers if they were offended."

Yes Vivienne, quite right. The list should have included "sanitary towels" and "Preparation H".

It's reassuring to know that there are TV stalwarts looking out for such shoddy broadcasting.
