The one who didn't fit the age profile was Matic but Mourinho working with him in the past probably tilted it into a deal. Perisic is different - he is not a young player who has much more room to grow - and is he that good to warrant losing Martial? Martial despite being six years his junior is matching Perisic over the last two years in goals despite one playing from the start in almost every game and the other who spends more time out of the line up than in.

What ever your thoughts on the manager are I think the bigger problem is how the club is run and this summer has proven that once again.

Mourinhos comments (if true) are not helpful at all and it does look like he’s about to go full Partridge once again, but then the board have a lot to answer for and who ever the manager is we’d be seeing the same struggles with transfers etc

The clubs decision to go on a money making tour to the US again when they knew full well we’d have 3/4 of our first team squad missing was always going to be a struggle and potential for being a negative few weeks.
