It's strange in a sense. He's had 8 for three years. It'll look weird. Probably too weird.

Rooney out.

Hargreaves to get Heinze's 4. Anderson to get 8 and Nani to get 14 when Smith leaves.

because he is a number 10 isn't he - so he was offered it, and now is the time to do it as it is new kits across the board so they can change his no without upsetting everyone, and he's not jumped into ruud's shirt as soon as he;s left!

It's confirmation that there won't be a another striker.

A talent like that can choose any number he wants. Unfortunately with Bolton interested we have no chance of getting him.

Does seem a bit odd, I assumed Anderson would be 10 with Hargreaves taking 4 off Heinze when he no doubt moves on.

because at £7 a number for shirt printing, you get more for 10 than you do for 8.

He plays no.9 for England and Saha is off soon, I'm surprised he didn't want the no.9 shirt.

Anderson's got to earn his place in the squad, never mind be given such an illustrious shirt number on arrival.

Rooney's been offered the number10 shirt & has taken it. Hardly warrants a conspiracy theory.
He is our top striker after all.

Hopefully Saha will be £#%&!ed off & we'll finally have someone in posession of the number9 shirt that can stay fit for more than 12 games a season.

There was nobody else at the Club at that time in competition for the number7 shirt.
We had a very weak 'squad' & a lot of players that were never United players in a million years. It was a 'transitional time' to say the least.

We have a strong & successful squad now (albeit still worryingly short of a striker)
Shirt numbers & starting roles will be harder to come by than they were the year Ronnie joined.

You are spot on.

If you think that's bad, I can reveal our new striker is going to be Venegoor of Hesselink and he will be wearing shirt number 999
