Barca in 2008 were at the end of the cycle under Rijkaard. Still had some quality but it was a good time to get them.

The problem too often with United has been getting knocked out by shite like Monaco, Leverkusen and Porto. Don't care if Porto won it they are probably the weakest side to win the tournament I can remember. Let ourselves down too often against those sides.

this. except that Barca squad was unreal before pep took over

Liverpool have done much better than us in the champs league with much worse sides.

That's because we were at our peak then. They were on the slide just before guardiola took over.

Was a vastly different story 12 months later. We couldn't lay a glove on them in rome.

Loads of those players were finished though. Ronaldinho, Deco, Zambrotta, Thuram. All binned just after that. They needed the fresh impetus of the youth players the following year, plus Pique, Dani Alves, Keita etc. They were very low energy against us; a million miles away from Pep's team.

Not really. They've won it once and united have won it twice.

I don't think anyone can argue that for the 18 odd seasons in a row we qualified for the champions league we criminally under achieved at times.

Getting knocked out by milan in 2007 was pretty £#%&!ing crap as well.

The whole defence was injured to be fair.

The worst eliminations were Dortmund, Porto and Madrid in 2013.

That Robertson is out of his depth at this level.

Bayern 2010

1-0 up with minutes to go in Germany. 2-1 defeat. Rooney did his ankle and was not the same for a long while.

Second leg absolutely flying 3-0 up until Carrick got himself in a mess, Rafael getting a second yellow and Robben pulling off a fluke volley.

Bayern had Lyon in the semi and lost to an Inter side we'd comfortably knocked out the year before.

So is 'Hamez'. The definition of average. Still can't believe RM £#%&!ed so much on him after that goal.

Still rankles that one. Fancied us to piss the rest of that competition if we’d gone through. One of the times Fergie got it wrong. We were under massive pressure at 3-1 in the second leg but didn’t have a striker on the pitch as he’d left Nani on as top man when we went down to 10 men. So there was nobody to hold it up and provide a bit of respite. The second goal was horribly inevitable. We’d absolutely murdered them up till the red card as well

I’d fancy us to beat Bayern in the next round.

Problem is they won’t be in it if they keep playing this shit.

Bayern look absolutely toss here. Only plan appears to be hoping Lewandowski gets his toe on the end of something,

Their current group is clearly finished as a top team. Fortunately for them Dortmund have just put together an excellent, young, shiny team for them to steal.
