Doubt they'd be looking at a loss. $1bn seems a bit of a low valuation tbh.

can't see anybody in the world buying 49% of club 700 million in debt to not have a controlling power. utter %@#$&!s imo.

True. You could get there if that price is referring to total funds raised, rather than overall value of the company. So it might be a stake sale plus raising of new funds. No fund managers in Europe will be dumb enough to get into a mid sized IPO right now, especially not a football club. Glazers probably reckon they can raise new funds to Asian investors. And they'll probably be right, too.

If only we had signed Kagawa this IPO would be a walk in the park.

Forbes valued United at $1.86 billion this year, so it does seem a low value.

Some sort of "refinancing" was done to pay of the PIK loans, so I guess this is linked to that. Still a bit of a mystery where they found the cash to pay them off.

They apparently took great encouragement from how popular the bonds were in Asia. Well oversubscribed there apparently.

they aren't trying to sell 49% to one investor. They are trying to sell 49% to lots of different investors.

Loan.

Doubt none of this "investment" will be used to pay off debts. Basically you can have half the club and half the debt that goes with it.

$1bn will be for 49% of the shares and they'll take that money for themselves.

They are gonna use the investment to pay off the debts aren't they so they can stop paying interest and start paying themselves and the investors dividends.

They will end up majority shareholders/owners of United raking money in for many, many years, and the debts will be paid off.

I'll highlight the main point.

Why would they pay off the debts, the club continues to do that anyway.
