What a sensible chap Matthew Simmons has become, not that innocent fan that was brutally attacked by a thuggish footballer as the media made out at the time
"The court heard that Simmons, of Kynaston Avenue, Thornton Heath, south London, held a grudge because his son, now 13, was dropped from the under-8s side when his infamous altercation with French striker Cantona was brought to Mr Cooper's attention"

Ffs Paul Nolan? Was he a blue @#%&! then? Or did he support leeeeeeds because of his mate gareeeh speeeeeeeed - was it Stannage who hosted the phone in?
You can tell his political stance from his wave? I'm impressed, doesn't look royal at all.

The best bit is we're less than 7 months away from "You'll never win anything with kids" being 25 years ago.

My dad cancelled his decades long sub to the Guardian because of the totally po-faced and humourless way they covered it, David Lacey's contribution being especially egregious IIRC.

(I think that Jim Shelley was almost the only exception there)

Some great characters and reactions in the photo still. Anyone got a high res version?
