Default Managers who have twice done the league and European Cup double?

Stefan Kovacs with Ajax in 1972 and 1973. Sir Alex Ferguson with Manchester United in 1999 and 2008. Anyone else?

Did Hitzfeld do it or did Dortmund not win the league?

Firstly, why obviously & secondly, Clough never did a League title & European Cup double.

Forest won the league in the 77-78 season, following year won the EC & won it again the following year, after qualifying as holders.

CBA checking the vermins honours out - just did, Paisley did one league title & EC double in 76-77.

That's a very good shout, but Bayern won the Bundesliga in 1997 with Dortmund finishing third. So only one double for Hitzfeld.

Because I was taking the piss out of the constant bracketing of Ferguson with the two aforementioned luminaries - as if he is now only just fit to share the top table with them

yep

Real Madrid might have a shout in the first 5 years?

That was one that sprung to mind for me as well. That Madrid side did win two back-to-back doubles, in '56-57 and '57-58, but this was done under two different managers - Pepe Villalonga for the first and former Boca Juniors star Luis Carniglia for the second.

Another one that sprung to mind. I checked that out - three consecutive European Cups, but just the one double, in 1974.

Capello had the opportunity to do it twice, but lost to Marseille in 1993. So only one European Cup for him - the famous victory against Cruijff's Barca in 1994 - and just the one double.

Sacchi won two consecutive European Cups, two consecutive Intercontinental Cups, and two consecutive Super Cups, but no double.

Guttmann's Benfica also won two consecutive European Cups, but only one of those was part of a league and cup double. In 1962 Sporting pipped them to the title by 2 points.

Another great team and another great shout - two consecutive European Cups, but again only the one double for Helenio Herrera.
