Part of the transfer is settling and dissolving the original contract. Barca are probably offering him €1m to settle a contract they actually owe him €20m on in backdated pay, and the 2 following seasons at €50m, looking to save themselves a massive obligation. He’s got to dig his heels in. If he says he wants to go, they’ll try to give him nowt.

I actually commend the club for sticking with it to this point. Previously it was overpaying for players that most likely weren't on the managers list.

But I do think it's time to re-evaluate this transfer. Would be nice for top European clubs to collectively refuse to deal with Barcelona. £#%&! them.

Why are we so bad at this? We can blame Barca all we want but if he's not an attainable target we should move on to getting someone else.

We seem to be really shit at calling clubs' bluff. Put timescales on the deal and pull out if it doesn't happen. This should have been wrapped up before the tour, it's a farce that it hasn't.

It’s clear he is an attainable target. We’ve been tipped off that Barca need/want to sell. We’ve got a broad agreement for the deal, negotiations took a while because Barca are desperate for money. The Barca politics are beyond our control.

I do agree there should be a point we just £#%&! them off, but were we to do that today and then buy 2nd/3rd choice only for the lever that allows them to reach an agreement on his contract to be activated next week and have him then sign for Chelsea, we’d all be fuming we’d not hung on. Can’t really win.

Plus we don’t actually know what has been said/is being said in the background.

If we get him, great, if not so be it.
