It’s all very well saying “he’s decent, would improve us” etc, but we’ve seen time and time again the problem with signing players and not properly considering how they’re going to fit into the team and the club.

If we’re limiting ourselves to free transfers then it’s something that could very easily happen again.
This.

“Better than what we have” should not be the criteria. It’s not difficult to better than shite, which is what most of our squad is.

What we need is better, but also the right kind of player, the right age, the right price, all within the context of prioritising what we need and recognising that we need at least 4 new players this summer.

If the right player comes along on a free, great, but eyeing up freebies just because we need players…. No.

Frankly, I’m glad we were nowhere near Rudiger. Apart from the fact I don’t see what all the fuss is about, I don’t want us throwing money at 29 years olds to convince them to come here. We need to move away from that and this blinkered view of just signing premier league players.

It was always gonna be Richard "The Body" Arnold to fix our mess of a club. The man looks, walks, talks and even smells of success.

Wouldn’t mind a couple of decent stop gap freebies tbh, It would allow us to sort more important positions out while strengthening the depth of the squad.

The problem will be if we sign them up to long term contracts on ridiculous wages.

Cant be fixed with money. God knows they’ve tried. Everton similarly spent 500 million for absolutely nothing. There is no “quick fix”, but the start would be to sack Arnold/Murtough/Fletcher and basically anyone associated with the executive committee of the past 10 years.
