80 points should be our target. That would represent a 14 point gain on last year, which is a significant step forward, probably secure CL again in either 2nd or 3rd and ideally challenge for one of the cups. My guess is City will win it with 87-90 points.

We still need 3-4 players. Our fowards are not as good as previously touted. Most generous thing you can say is that they’re inconsistent, and if we manage to bring in top quality competition for them they’re going to suffer by comparison unless they up their games. We’re already seeing this with Cavani, and that’s a guy on the ass end of his career. Last night they were shocking.

Assuming Henderson has what it takes to replace De Gea, we still need a solid CB, a deeper lying CM with more mobility than Matic and a decent passing range and ideally some competition for Wan Bissaka.

We get those and I think high 80’s, low 90’s is in range, which should represent a proper challenge.

Watching last night, ‘ON’ was a pipe dream. Too many one goal wins while not playing well. Too many deficits to overturn. Too scrappy.

This is the one remaining hope.

I think the last two seasons have conditioned us into believing the game has changed, we’ve become a farmer’s league and only two teams are truly in with a shout.

But City and Liverpool have looked shaky, teams like Villa and Everton are capable of turning top 4 sides over.

It all rests on City experiencing another blip or two. Certainly we will drop more points. Just pray they do too.

I don't think we will win it but we won't be far away, for the first time in a longtime we are on the right track and building the basis of a very good team.

Said it on the match thread that this bump in the road was coming. It's how we dust ourselves off that's worrying me.

Few cardie buttons undone.

We were due a bad result at some point. There’s only one team more likey to win it than us and they could have a blip at any point. Very much on assuming we get a minimum of 4 out of next 6 points.

it's not the blip or bump in the road that pisses off everyone....it's the manner in which we played that should be the lingering feeling because we just didn't turn up and pissed away 3 points and staying top of the league

Tbf there is no season In which a team plays 36 games from start to finish brilliantly . Within the games a team that wins the league loses, bad games are played in which a pathetic performance is turned out. Happened many times underneath Ferguson.

The real test and to see how far we have progressed (if we have) will be in the response in the next couple of weeks. Big week coming up.

Nobody is happy with that performance ,fans ,management or players . It happens ,teams have shockers ,are on the end of bad decisions and/or unlucky

It was one match FFS

Let's see the response before deciding to go full Golden Gorden

It’s not just about last night’s brain fart. More the consistency of the bitters getting it together at the right time and us rarely looking convincing.

But its not. I'm philosophical about last night now, rather than raging. But teams who actually win the league hardly ever turn in perfomances (never mind results) as rank bad as that.

(certainly not after the opening few games anyway)

Well they’ve managed to make it last for virtual entire seasons for the last few years.

Might be why they’re hot favourites to win the league.

Inclined to agree with Rubbernecker. It's about as on as it was last week, we're still nowhere near favourites but we've definitely got a good chance and it's not off because we lost one game.

At the beginning of the season it was Spurs and they were going to easily finish above us. Now they're 6th.

Then it was Liverpool and they were going to walk the league at a canter over again. Then they dropped 16 points from 30 available.

City can certainly drop some points and throw in some shit results before the end of the season, nqat.

our lofty position was only ever down to other teams being shit. of course, if they continue to be shit, we can still win it.
