hindsight is 20/20 but you have to remember we stormed to a european cup final in 2011 and as the big man at the time said; the only midfielders worth signing were already playing for barcelona.

We had pogba coming up, and this guy dominating a european cup semi final

There was plenty of money as shown this summer. Even this summer we just bought 1 CM...

Summer of 2012 everyone wanted the midfield strengthening. Only 1 or 2 wanted a striker, I was 1 of the few wanting a striker. The midfield situation was desperate though.

RvP was a tremendous signing in the sense that he papered over the cracks created by our shite midfield sufficiently to get us to the title, the cracks wouldn't have needed papering over in such fashion if the team had been properly fixed though and we wouldn't be going through the revolution now in such drastic fashion.

or 2 if you include Blind and Herrera.

I'm not saying there wasn't, but if the RvP money was all there was to be spent, it could've been better used.

wouldn't have given the chance to arsenal and city fans though and to enjoy RVP...

He was brilliant that first season tbf. If he regains that form then he's first pick. Seems a hell of a long time ago now though, and he looks to be so much slower now

what a steaming pile of nowt

signing RvP was a no brainer at that price. we were desperate for a top class striker and it worked like a charm as we romped to the title.

this idea that we signed him instead of a midfielder or we signed him just to stop City signing him is utterly laughable. had Ferguson thought it absolutely essential to sign a midfielder then he would have done.
