we're really playing three up front these days, aren't we? i'd be interested to see the stat for ronnie's assists last year because that's surprisingly low, and bears out the (fairly obvious) fact that he's playing almost as a striker these days, in so far as any of the front three have fixed positions. tevez, rooney and ronnie provide a very good balance for us up front with great flexibility: all of them are capable of playing both wings and through the middle.

no end product, 20 Mill? snap their hands off.

think a large reason ronnies assists are so low is down to players bad finishing and the way the stats are calculated ie deflections or rebounds dont count.

ronaldo is surely responsible for creating things almost singlehandedly more than anyone else.

spilled saves falling at our players, missed chances, another player nicking last touch after loads of ronaldo carving defence open etc. plenty of moments like that lead to misleading stats.

Most interesting from those stats is that it appears that Rooney is actually our most effective attacking player, if you look at Assists and Goals (less penalties).

Shuts up all those idiots who have been having a pop about his performances this season.

Rooney has probably had as many chances as Ronaldo this season, his finishing has let him down at times.

Perhaps, but he always takes a few games to get his finishing right after he's been out injured. Been a real stop start season for him, which is a shame as the consistency and level of his performances have been the best since he arrived.

I think one reason Ronaldos assists aren't as high as last year is simply because he's more likely to take chances he creates himself. What's he got now, 21 goals in all competitions? That's a ridiculous amount! If it means less assists, so be it. Rooney, Tevez, Giggs etc will still create plenty themselves.

don't think you were the only one who thought Ronaldo was going to be one of the best players in the world 3 years ago.

He thinks he is, he thinks he was the only one who thought Anderson would be brilliant this season.
He will respond to this post by saying go and watch some youtube clips etc..

Probably not, but there weren't many (on RI) of us who did. Indeed, during the middle of the 2006 season, there was a massive thread arguing he should be sold! Most of the #@&%!s that posted on there, as well many "respected" () Sanc members seemed to think it was a good idea. The £#%&!ing clowns.

Then, as now (regarding Anderson), it tends to be the armchair fans that hysterically write off our players after a dip in form. Surprise surprise...

Ronaldo played 2786 minutes in the league last season, scoring 17 goals for a goal rate of 0.55 goals per 90 minutes. According to ESPN Soccernet he managed 14 assists in total, for an assist rate of 0.45 per 90 minutes. So his combined goals+assists rate was almost exactly 1 per 90 minutes over the course of last season - extremely close to what he's produced this time round, but with a very different composition.

I contacted my friend, a statistician, who urged me to send him these statistics immediately.

I did as he asked and he's just replied with an explanation.

Apparently, it means our players are £#%&!ing good.

My feeling is that if Rooney hadn't had his injury problems this season, we'd quite probably be clear at the top of the league right now.

It's amazing to think we've come from having all those issues with scoring goals at the start of the season, to having the best attacking and defensive records in the league. And it still feels like we're yet to really hit top gear on a consistent basis as a team.

I shall go to bed thinking about these fine statistics and our fine football. The misses is asleep but I may allow myself a moment of pleasure.

Worth noting that Nani notched up another assist yesterday (the knock-on for Tevez's second). His productivity is really quite impressive considering the number of matches he's played, although the sample size is obviously a bit small.

924 Minutes (10.27)
06 Assists (0.58)
02 Goals (0.20)
00
08 Goals+Assists (0.78)
