Pretty sure it was a red card. It did look a bit orangey but it could just be the colour settings on my TV.

Im with you on this Fauntleroy. The ball was there to be won. Both went high. Second to the ball was always going to foul but red? Nah.

Self-flagellation and martyrdom

refs are forced to give red cards for 50-50 challenges these days. that was a ball off the ground, both went in hard with their feet up and one of them nicked it, the other one caught his opponent. neither was doing anything more dangerous than the other ffs.

completely different to the carragher tackle which was just a lunge at a player, or the essien leg-breaker at stoke, neither of which received red cards.

rubbish

if you go in studs high like that, miss the ball and take out the man its a sending off everytime

the carragher and essien challenges may have been worse but all 3 should be red card offences

and lets not be naive. he knew what he was doing. he knew what was coming and didn't look surprised. neither did most of the the other players

he has form for that sort of stupid challenge in exactly that sort of situation and it cost us a shot at getting back into the game

i don't absolve scholes from blame, he knows how refs interpret the rules these days and it was hardly a surprise when the card came out. he should know better. my irritation is the way the game's gone, not this decision.

Like Evans' sending off the other week.

Not malicious, but reckless.

to be honest if it stops that sort of challenge i'm all for it

he cut him open on the thigh

i don't think it has anything to do with interpretation of 50/50's. he did him and got what he deserved

and as our most senior player on the pitch his behavior is far worse in my eyes than rooney swearing

Spot on, and glad that 85.71% agree with this point.

I find it odd that anyone is blinkered enough to believe that it wasn't a red card.
