Can't afford is a load of crap its don't want to spend.

The money involved here dwarfs anything on offer in any sport and spending will as now be totally controlled by the Glazers so saying they let the manager spend is absolute rubbish.

Forgive me if this is a silly £#%&!ing question, but what exactly is in it for the 17 teams who don't win the thing?

At least with domestic football there's the carrot of qualifying for europe for finishing in the top 6 and winning a cup competition.

Or would it go into a play-off type situation at the top?

It's a £#%&!ing disgrace tbh. Doesn't surprise me though that the yanks are behind the scenes orchestrating all of this at a time when football's on it's arse.

Kind of ironic now that we've been screaming about how greedy and amoral our owners are for 15 years and nobody gave a shit because it was only us being run into the £#%&!ing ground. Only one team wins the European cup each season....

The clubs don't care about winning things, it's guaranteed x amount of income they want.

Right now big clubs are no guaranteed to even qualify for the Champions League, never mind getting knocked at at the soonest possible stage.....thats terrible for the dividends.
