Default MOTD 1982: Manchester United

Deathly silence followed by alltheladsandlasseswithsmilesuponhtierfaces...empi rical evidence that the Albanians have been operating in Manchester for a lot longer than everyone thought. Frank Stapleton looks shit.

Seemed to have been around for ages back then, but was still playing professionally in the mid 1990s

Didn't he come half way through the 85/86 season, along with Terry Gibson

Not a doctor but frank was an undiagnosed depressive. He was on the late, late show over here in Ireland years later, I think it was either a tribute to jack Charlton or paul mcgrath and he spent most of his segment bemoaning how his kids hadn't led up to his expectations because they didn't put the effort in. This was on national tv.

Robson and Wilkins would sort our midfield problems out.

Birtles and Stapleton can do one though.

When Pancho scored it was the first time I can remember that I had been lifted off my feet by some complete stranger. Imagine it - people standing up in B Stand. One or two may even have sung ....

More concerned about being crushed against one of the barrier stanchion things in the Stretford End during the goal surge

Confirmed there was singing in there too

Stapleton was £#%&!ing quality. Wish we had someone today the ball stuck to
as well as it did him. Master of a disguised lay off. Gave Robbo tons of assists

Could head a ball better than some of todays shit@#%&!s could pass it

Put a great shift in at CB too after spud head got sent off in the Cup Final 85
