Far from elite but an improvement on the waistcoat

We’ve enjoyed some mirth at his expense, esp at the dippers but he’s not a bad lad, Brenny

Not too invested in this. It’s not United.

Doubt the blazers would go for a man of his culture, anyway

They'd never hire a Catholic.

Good to see that he's not embarrassed about his lobotomy scars.

But they won’t appoint anyone of his “culture”

There is an absurd, parochial obsession in some quarters with the appointment of an Englishman. But this is a football manager, not the leader of a St George’s Day gala

Absolutely classic Guardian. International football by definition is parochial, if foreign managers are ok why not foreign players?

What does he become after he dies of a massive heart attack at about 40 years old?

He’d be difficult to sit behind. It’d be like having Homer Simpson winking at you the whole time.

Would be even more embarrassing if he had lobotomy scars on the back of his head...

There's a bit of a 'spat' going on between Richard Keys and Jamie Carragher atm, as reported in Mail, about whether England's manager should always be an Englishman.

The most impressive thing about the article can be found in the top rated comments, though, which include:

Franco wasn't a fascist though to be fair... anyway,

Brenton for England? How would the better players react to getting their faces touched? Would Foden go into his shell or visibly grow in stature as a result of such managerial intimacy?

It'd be a risk, but Southgate is a properly shit football manager.

I'd get that bald German in. Or Poch.
