I think that some of these 'youngster' signings are just a way to make some money.

Get a young guy for almost nothing, pay him a pittance, put him through the academy, if he's outstanding, then fine, otherwise get rid to another english / european club for a million or two.

It's not a bad business if you think about it, could maybe raise 20 or more million a year if we put the effort into it.

nss

bleeding hell albert, they've been doing that for years now

realistically they'd hope to get one gem through to the first teasm squad a year maybe, or one every two years. the rest pay for it - facilities, accommodation, travel, scouting, equipment, coaching, wages, education, promotional stuff etc etc. united has made maybe 30m through the background set-ups over the past 5 years? just another reason why people are wasting their time banging on about net spends. completely irrelevant, really.

Saw quotes earlier from the Arsenal chairman saying that Wenger hadn't said anything about being interested in Cole. I'd say Spurs is a better bet.

Saw it on the Wag dine with me special last night, absolutely essential viewing.

Djibril Cissé's wife was on it, she's nuts.
