Old Trafford, Capacity 93,202 ??
Never seen this breakdown before ( shown below ), and therefore I don't know how accurate it is, however if United were to run the second tier of the East and West stand around over the South Stand.. that's what I'd calculate the capacity to be.
I work on the premise that they'd reconfigure the existing South Stand like the North Stand.. Technically you should reduce the figure slightly to allow for the inevitable increased media and VIP facilities and the enlarged Disabled section which I believe is supposed to be a proportion of total capacity, however to counter this drop, I haven't including the numbers from the additional executive boxes. Old Trafford total capacity: 76,212 (capacity numbers are not exact figures) North Stand: 25,500 = 102 rows of seats Lower: 4,250 = 17 rows Upper: 8,000 = 32 rows 2nd tier: 8,250 = 34 rows 3rd tier: 5,000 = 19 rows East Stand: 11,500 = 89 rows East Stand lower: 1,500 = 17 rows (disabled section) East Stand upper: 4,000 = 32 rows East 2nd Tier: 6000 = 40 rows West Stand: 12,000 = 89 rows West Stand lower: 2,000 = 17 rows West Stand upper: 4,000 = 32 rows West 2nd Tier: 6000 = 40 rows South Stand: 11,500 = 48 rows Lower: 2,500 = 11 rows Upper: 8,500 = 37 rows Lower corners: 1,500 = 48 rows x 4 Upper North East Quadrant: 4,000 = 33 rows (maximum) Upper North West Quadrant: 4,000 = 33 rows (maximum) Executive boxes: 1,000 Time well spent I'm sure you'll agree ! |

93,202 comes from sweeping the large second tier that's over East and West Stand over the SE and SW quadrants and the South Stand itself. If they were stick a third tier over the Couth Stand so that it became a Mirror image of the north you'd be looking at approx 98,202. |

Current capacity ......76,212 Minus the "old" South Stand .......11,500 = 64,712 Add on the newSouth Stand built along the lines of the North Stand + 12,250 Add on a second tier + 8,250 Add on two upper Quadrants for SE and SW as per NE and NW ( 2x4000) + 8,000 Equals = 93,212 Anyway.. it's all hypothetical. |

i have been told on more than 1 occasion that the south stand can not be expanded/raised. you can't build any higher as is would block the sun from the pitch and grass would not be able to grow.
however are we really that far away from synthetic playing surfaces? i'd imagine the glazers are leading the charge. |

Within months they'd announced plans to re-do the North Stand in time for The European Championships. |

I quite like a lack of symmetry.. I also hate our roof.. very claustrophobic. Remember 99 in the Nou Camp looking out at the whole ground and sensing the enormity of the place and occasion. Don't get that at OT as all you can see is the pitch. Better now that the quadrants have opened things up, but still not great. |
