Even with no knee's he'd still beat Jags in a footrace.

I doubt it, otherwise he might have made more than 5 appearences in the time that Super Jags has made 68 even though he has is own major injury in that time.

If you say so. But then his replacement Rafael is no slouch at right back so we don't really miss that pace.

Erm. OK. Anyway, Smalling is good, Jags is too fat and slow and Rafael is quick.

Jags is rated at 4/5 times what he cost his last team and has had games for england where as Hargo is an insurance claim in waiting. Smalling looks promising.

This isn't about Hargo, who is still quicker than the shortarse. It is about Smalling who is far better already that fatboy.

The kids' ascent in footballing terms is a joke.

2008 he signed for Fulham, after a whole 11 £#%&!ing games for Maidstone

13 games for Fulham, & 2 appearances for Utd later & he's starting in the first XI at centre back in the Champions League - for a professional footballer that wasn't brought through an academy (say's he didn't settle at any, which in itself probably would have signalled the death knell for the vast majority of youngsters in the modern game) it's bordering on ludicrous.

So any lapses in concentration, issues with getting to grips with the movement of strikers etc, I don't have a problem with at this embryonic stage of his footballing career, let alone United career.

Seeing as how Evans is getting a bit of stick, you'd of thought we could use this thread as the bookmark for looking back at long it takes Big Smallers to "become shit".

I'll give it the regulation 18 months...

Look, just 'cos you used to take long showers with him doesn't mean you have to take it so personally.

New deal for Smalling

Chris Smalling has been rewarded for his outstanding debut season at United with a new five-year contract.

The shrewd signing from Fulham settled quickly at Old Trafford and emerged as a reliable understudy to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the heart of the defence.

After also showing his versatility by playing right-back against Blackpool on the final day, the England Under-21 international looks likely to enjoy more opportunities next term following the departure of fellow defenders John O'Shea and Wes Brown to Sunderland.

Sir Alex Ferguson has clearly been impressed with the confident Londoner and wasted little time in offering him fresh terms.

"I am delighted Chris has signed a new contract," enthused the boss to ManUtd.com. "Chris has been outstanding since joining us from Fulham last year, he is an extremely talented young defender, he’s quick, strong and reads the game well, he is a great asset to the team."

Smalling had no hesitation in extending his agreement with the Reds until the end of the 2015/2016 season and is delighted with how his Old Trafford career has taken off since moving north.

"This is a great club and, in the short time I have been here, I have already achieved more than I could have ever expected to," he told ManUtd.com. "I am looking forward to a long and successful career at Manchester United."

The 21-year-old is due to link up with the rest of the squad on tour in the United States after enjoying a slightly extended break following his summer exertions at international level.
