Heh - even if Keane didn't really complete his tirade with *those* words to McCarthy, maybe he should have done.

Read Keane's second book.

Great footballer, absolute stone-cold weirdo of a bloke.

Proper, proper odd-ball.

You can tell from his self-analysis in the book he knows he's a weirdo, himself.

Even reading it, he bored me. Got to be on the spectrum to some extent.

Complex character

Saddest thing is it seems he never really enjoyed any of the trophies because he was already mentally preparing for the next challenge

I hear that too often

"complex character"

he's just weird... nothing to like about him, no sense of humour, no humility.

great player, wouldn't want to spend five minutes with him.

every single anecdote where he's lashed out or been a #@&%! to someone (in the book) is proceeded by him reflecting on it some years later and admitting he got it wrong.

complete emotional car crash.

meh...

complete disaster in management when he had to rely on his people skills rather than his talent.

complete liability.

Before then justifying it again in some way by throwing a bit of snide. He seems to be in constant conflict though his angry, red mist side is far superior. He’ll never admit it, but I bet he has deep regrets about how it all ended at OT and his relationship with Fergie.

Keane’s problem was not being wrong per se, it was how he dealt with being right, and the fact that he wouldn’t want the same scrutiny directed at him. Can you imagine being around him? Eggshells on top of other, more fragile, eggshells.

this is it - he's just a #@&%!

i remember being in a TAC meeting about a lad who was prone to outbursts and generally being an anti-social @#%&!.

The psychologists and the daisies in her team all said

"awww, he's a decent lad when you get to know him"

someone else in the meeting quickly snapped back...

"don't you mean he's a total pain in the arse, but you'll get used to him.."

Keane is 40-odd going on 13.

And yet many of our best players for that decade straddling the treble season will cite him as the most inspirational player they played with. Go figure.
