Cheapskate @#%&!.

All this reminds me of city 'retiring' the number 27 (or whatever it was) for Foé and behaving like one of their most famous and well-loved players had died.

It'd be great if the tributes were brutally honest.

'I played with him at Leeds. He was alright, I suppose'

'Gary was not bad at football. Sometimes he could play brilliantly and sometimes poorly.'

'I really looked up to Speedo, he really was a truly quite good midfielder'.

etc.

'Vinnie Jones once called me a @#%&!, Gary Speed never did that...'.

'I saw Gary Speed on occasion and he always nodded towards me, and I'd nod back'.

'When I heard that a famous ex footballer had died, I thought 'oh god, I hope it isn't my old team mate Jonesy aka 'Sulkers', I felt relieved that it was Gary Speed'.

'...I might add that although Vinnie could be verbally abusive, he was a good laugh. Gary Speed was anonymous on a night out.'

'We all went on a night out with the Welsh squad, although I can't remember if Gary was there. He'll be terribly missed'

The eulogising of Gary Speed is a £#%&!ing joke.

Good to see some back to reality posts on this forum

Still, I guess the grief junkies have had their latest fix until the next mediocrity snuffs it.

Speed was, indeed, not a world class footballer - but nor was he "mediocre". You don't play as many games, for as long, in one of Europe's top football leagues if you are that.......

Mediocrity, my friend, is the likes of Darron £#%&!ing Gibson

andy mitten has cobbled together a particularly mundane tribute for fourfourtwo

http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/fourfou...ary-speed.aspx

Quote:
Speed reckoned Danny was “a good lad.” Such phrases oil and uphold reputations within football.

We got to his room and both sat on a sofa by the side of his bed. He wore an understated Rolex and a Ralph Lauren polo. I put a tape recorder between us and spoke about tactics for seven minutes, specifically scoring from a free-kick from near the touchline, in line with the edge of the 18-yard box.

I told Speed that I was from FourFourTwo and that I’d like 15 minutes of his time to talk about tactics at some point over the next two days. He said it would be fine and we arranged to meet at breakfast the next day. He was busy having breakfast with Shearer the following morning so I didn’t bother him, but I did see him later on. He said meet in an hour. He wasn’t there in an hour.
He turned up half-an-hour later
, apologised for being late and then said that we should do the interview in his room rather than a public area. I walked with him to his room and made small talk.
more to this than meets the eye
