People put way too much stock into the importance of ‘tactical genius’. It’s bullshit.

Tactics are the icing on the cake.

Firstly you need a good solid base, your thick sponge. That’s player recruitment. The squad is 90% of the flan.

Next, a layer of coaching jam. Well drilled players who know their roles.

A second layer of stability sponge. Players must know where they stand in relation to the manager and the club.

Then yeah, throw on a few sprinkles. Well timed subs, flexible gameplans. It’s baking not rocket science.

As long as Ole has the stones to stick with it, he’ll be a successful United manager.

A calendar year (at least) undefeated away in the league. Anyone know what they do in training?

Ferguson was still making tactical errors in 2011 and 12. Fact

I dream of Ole winning the league. Being infront of a packed crowd and players singing oles at the wheel. Really stick it into the fan cam, banter page meme @#%&!s

Carragher was an Everton fan back then. Still blaming the "red shite" as they call them for not getting a pop at the European Cup when they could have won it in 86.

city away in 2012 comes to mind.

but he did well to win two titles in his last few years with that squad, and coming within a @#%&!'s hair of winning a third one, only missing out on goal difference.

winning the league by 11 points with a squad that featured anderson, cleverley, welbeck, jones and evans. fergie.

Would have won the league with any of the top four clubs in 2011 as well. We were blessed to have lived through his era as Reds.

As maybe..... but singing Fergie must stay all game that day will be like a dose of shingles threatening to come back and haunt them. The vermin will want a revolving managers door at OT

Absolutely, as per current Fleet Street hack narrative due to the many vermin fans in their ranks.

Ole Out
But obviously a good manager would have done better, (conveniently ignoring the 2 managers prior).

Fergie was utter **** tactically. Management is 90% management of player and group dynamics, which is why the best players don’t always make the best managers. You have assistants and coaches to micro manage shit. United’s game changed with every assistant fergie hired.

True, his main tactic if we hadn't scored halfway through the 1st half was to switch the 2 wingers to opposite sides because it once worked for him.

Part of that was recognising that the game was evolving and he needed to stay ahead of it with new ideas. It took years for Wenger to figure out that he had to change to beat Allardyce's Bolton, for example.

Put Keano at right-back and we beat Ipswich 9-0. Genius.
