I’d like to think he never uttered a single word of English in his decade + long stint in the country.

Just steadfastly refused.

Got through life here entirely through eye contact and hand signals.

That would be impressive.

Football wise - embarrassing that a professional footballer be so one footed. Half the player he should have been.

Thanks for the depressing memories serious Tone.

Im happy to defend him as a player, but the captain thing was loco. Unless we had 100pc spanish refs in CL games

Anyhow, how can you not like this rags to riches story

Valencia was born on 4 August 1985 in Lago Agrio, near the city of Nueva Loja, Ecuador, which is located in the Amazon rainforest.[6] Valencia helped his mother sell drinks outside the stadium of his local club at Lago Agrio and would then search for empty bottles for his father to sell to a bottle-deposit in the capital, Quito.[7] Valencia used to play barefoot on the pitch next to the bungalow he shared with his parents, five brothers and sister.

Could actually control the ball when played to him at whatever speed better than any of the million pound cement bag trappers at the club , in fact I don't think there was anyone better at it during his time at the club

Long cross field diagonal no probs and under control in one .

An underestimated skill

The hate is irrational. He's been an overall solid performer.

Would've been a decent squad player in the great squads of past
Well said. You’d think he was Ralph Milne the way some talk about him. He gets more grief than ‘legends’ from the 80s, when we were much shitter than the last seven years.

He was Ronaldo's replacement. Let that sink in.
