Probably why Pep did a runner when he did tbf. Very odd that he seems prepared to stay at City when he needed a break from his beloved Barca..

Yes they do

They’re looking to get 750 million investment this summer by selling off a percentage of their TV rights and merchandising rights

Barcelona will seek approval from the club's members for a cash injection of up to €700 million ($750m) to help overhaul the squad this summer, sources have confirmed to ESPN.

The Catalan club announced on Tuesday that they will hold an extraordinary assembly on June 16 for members to vote on the potential sales of Barca Licensing & Merchandising [BLM] and future television rights.

Barca say they want "authorisation for the acquisition by one or more investors of a minority stake in the social capital of the BLM business (up to 49.9%)."

They are also asking for members to allow them to sell "up to 25% of income for the exploitation of television rights corresponding to [LaLiga] to one or more investors."

Members will be provided with more information on June 3 and then, 13 days later, will be able to vote electronically on whether to grant the club permission to sell off the assets.

Sources have told ESPN the sale of a stake in BLM could bring in around €200m ($214m), while the club's television rights could bring in as much as €500m ($536m) depending on the final terms and lengths of the potential deals.

That’s just asking for your wages up front, surely? Gets them out of the hole now, but means they’ve got budget issues forever.

Frenkie de jong is barcelonas highest paid player with a contract until 2026.
His club are desperate to offload him and yet we are begging him to come offering even more wages and willing to pay what Barca is asking.
I despair for this club I really do.

You don’t know what (or even if) we’ve offered or what we’re
Willing to pay. Settle down.

I know the theme is that we are utterly hapless, but if this guy was available and we didn’t move for him or at least ask the question, then it’d be

“He’s a top player and we’re not even interesed. Typical United” etc

Ultimately, if he doesn’t want to come, he won’t. If Barca need to sell (an important distinction, they’re not selling him because they want to, so he’s not some cast off) and we agree a deal, then we’re talking to a De Jong whose club have agreed to sell him. That’s a different discussion than trying to prise him away from an unwilling seller.

As we’ve said, the CL absence is a handicap. It means players might need talking round a bit. That doesn’t mean they can’t be or we should resort to begging. I can’t imagine every single player we’ve signed didn’t have at least some questions. Even our own manager has his reservations, yet here he is and fully committed.

It’s worth asking the question and if it falls through, it falls through. I imagine we’ll get an answer fairly quickly on this one.

Can’t imagine Greenwood has much to do with transfer negotiations tbh.
