He nearly went to Arsenal just before United got him didn't he? He would've been snapped up and I don't reckon bojangles would've got binned 3 months into the season had he won the league in May.

Robbo's greatest sacrifice

Feel a bit sad watching that back, great memories but it reminds me of a simpler time when we just used to turn up for the match, pay £3 on the turnstiles and jump about when we scored, oh, and could smoke profusely when things got a bit tense.

Happy memories, even though it all collapsed. That was the first time during my childhood I thought we would win the league. I would never feel that gutted again until 92, when some @#%&! called Kenny Brown shinned one in from 20 yards to all but give Leeds the title.

After that game Upton Park in 92 I was convinced we would never win the league

Was convinced Labour would never win an election either, after what had happened just weeks earlier

Always darkest before the dawn, eh??

Angry How the run of wins ended.....

I found this footage of our match at Luton where our run of consecutive victories at the start of the 1985-86 season came to an end -

1st half

2nd half

Thanks for that.

On the basis of those we were lucky to escape with a draw!

I remember "King Kenny" whining like £#%&! about their artificial pitch back then, so it isn't a new thing

Luton were a decent side back then, especially at home, and I remember our injury count creeping up and thinking we'd be lucky to continue our winning streak at this game.

the season if disillusionment

I was so convinced we were going to do it after that opening run. stopped going after that season and didn't go back until 90/91.

Great stuff, especially given that some of those early goals were never shown on telly!

Some of the football we played in the first ten games was just superb. The tv blackout ended at the start of the FA cup 3rd round.

My first away at city that year. Reds everywhere. It took about 30 mins to get them all out of the kippax. We were in the north stand aged 15. As exciting as it gets but strangely safe given there were reds everywhere.

Never seen anything like it, before or since. Ask a city fan that day whether Manchester was blue or red and there wouldn't have been the slightest debate.
