About a week till the window closes. Can see sporting raising the price even more once they realise the pressure woodward is under if we dont even sign a single player. this isnt going to happen is it?..

Not going to happen. Nothing is going to happen.

Does anyone expect the hierarchy to spend £30mil upfront and then throw in £100k wages per week on a player, on a long-odds gamble to slightly increase our chances of finishing fourth? No chance, they'd consider it a waste of money. They're happy to write the season off to mitigate any further losses for the time being.

If signing Fernandes somehow guaranteed Champions League football next year this transfer would have been wrapped up before the New Year hangover had worn off. But it's a gamble they don't believe in and are not willing to take imo.

There's no intention of signing the player, it's just shit talk to keep everyone occupied.

I'd actually feel better if it was just about this season, but Fernandes would be about beyond that and is the type of player we've spent the last six months clearing the decks for.

We've sold a lot of players, taken the risk of leaving ourselves thin, on the promise of building it back up with the right 'profile' of player.

Ole has been banging on about it enough now: young, something to prove, hard-working and talented. Upgrades on what we have.

Fernandes ticks all the boxes. And at a reasonable price in today's market.

And we can add to that that we're in a desperate moment and our manager needs support.

Apparently he has their 'full backing'.

So, where are you guys? Time to step up.

Or are you simply just going to hang this poor sap out to dry*

The people who run this club deserve nothing more than the spiral that's befallen them.

It's just a shame it hurts us more.

*that's a rhetorical question.

Probably had something in the works. The we beat spurs and city and thought we’ll be alright as we are.

That’s how short term we are in our thinking

It's why I can't see past them and go straight to Ole.

He's failing, lvg failed, jose failed, moyes failed and unless the club change what they do, the next guy will fail too.

How is any manager supposed to have any kind of plan when the most critical part - players we sign, is this hapless.

Klopp has been incredible for liverpool, but even within that time, they got someone in to oversee recruitment. Their recruitment before the Salah, firmino, coutinho days were as bad as ours.

its the 24th January.

our only activity in this window is getting rid of young. we are not buying anybody in this window. simples.

losing at tranmere will most certainly take care of that. Ole gets potted, new manager promised a `war chest` in the summer.

DDG gets sold in the summer, the gimps trouser the fee, we recall the fella from Sheffield United.

Yep, it's amazing what can be done when you have someone looking to buy players, and they know what they are doing.

Andy Robertson and Gini Wijnaldum were purchased from relegated sides for a total of £33m, while Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were by no means certain to be stars when signed from Southampton and Roma respectively.
Mane signed for Liverpool a year after we signed Martial (I think). The difference in numbers between both players in terms of senior starts and goals was crazy. We make a load of noise about blowing our load and signing an unproven 19 year old from a pub league, and Liverpool quietly go about their business and sign a 23 year old who already had 67 appearances and 21 goals in the Premier League.

They do the business to build the club, we just put on a show while the theatre (of dreams) literally falls apart around us.

Imagine starting next season with this squad minus Pogba and De Gea, with Henderson in the nets

Pretty sure LVG wanted Mane; iirc some were saying Berahino was a better player, and others just plain didn’t rate him.

Van Gaal wanted Mane apparently but was told no.

Also imagine our manager asking to sign players from a relegated club...

Woodward wouldn’t have it.

And that’s the thing, he’s the Glazers are the biggest issue at the club but if they’d invest in a proper footballing structure they’d save a load of money in the long run.

The more games Henderson gets under his belt before playing for us the better.

Hope Henderson is happy on the bench whilst Big Serg commands the box like a boss.

And the pressure they’re under?

Over a 12 year period. So long as most is raised by sales.

He isn’t some 30 year old short term signing. Part of their financial strategy seems to be the players they buy growing in value and an improving team reducing future investment needs. The exact opposite of the 6 years prior to ole.

If they can structure the deal to suit their finances and financial projections, the deal will be done. If they can’t, it won’t. Sporting are under pressure to raise money.
