Seen a great pic the other day from 1972 when Busby was made Knight Commander of St. Gregory by the Pope.

Asked my dad this and he said he was ruthless, didn't show it in public though.

Reading Dunphy's biography at the moment, A Strange Kind of Glory.

It's a good book and tells us as much about the state of the game in England between 1930-1960 as it does about Sir Matt himself.

He could be ruthless when needed, like putting the lawman on the transfer list...

its a very good book and it pulls no punches. he was very ruthless when necessary, vain on occasion, indulged in favoritism and in the case of wilf was pretty spineless.
