Default Ole's Press Conference: Bournemouth

Quote:
“We've not had a lot of training since [the Huddersfield game],” explained United's new caretaker manager. “We had yesterday [Thursday] off so today is the first day back.

”Romelu [Lukaku], Anthony [Martial] and Alexis were [in] light [training] yesterday so hopefully they can join part of the training today and let's see after they've come through. Marcos [Rojo] and Scott [The Scottish Player] look like they can take part very soon as well, so it's looking better.

“Smalling has got a sore foot, so I don't think we'll see him until the New Year anyway - maybe not even before Spurs [on 13 January] probably, around that time, but you never know.”

I wasn’t referring to Pogba as the main problem. The main problem is the attitude of those above the manager, placing greater importance on commercial considerations rather than there being a balance. It dooms any manager in the medium/long term unless they can become a bigger commercial asset than any individual player.

Could any new manager get rid of two fan favourites now, like Fergie did with Whiteside and McGrath? If the club had refused then, he’d have never developed us as he did, and instead would have failed miserably and been sacked.

You draw this conclusion based on Mou getting the sack over Pogba being sold?

Looks pretty balanced to me. They want success and good football on the pitch and their top players in the midst of it. To do so, Mourinho needed to be taken out. He was the virus.

The conclusion is drawn from comments like 'you can lose and still sell shirts... just look at Liverpool,' from Woodward.

The financial draw of the club is their top priority.

And when you go into the Megastore and see every mannequin wearing a Pogba shirt, you put two and two together.

No. I draw conclusions based on everything since 2013. Including various things from sources I judge to be credible.

They want to maximise revenue and minimise costs btw.

Don't know how true it is, but read somewhere before that markets like the US sell on names. Results aren't that important. PSG overtook United last year because of neymar alone apparently.

It's all about brand outside Europe.

During a presentation to shareholders he intimated we wouldn’t go down the pan commercially if we aren’t winning trophies? As loathesome a statement as that is, it’s clearly just something to make shareholders feel safe during our time of flux. Like it or not, the club is a business, same as all but 3 or 4 other clubs in the World.

As for mannequins with Pogba shirts on it’s the same as it ever was.

Mourinho was sacked for being shit, wasn’t backed for the same reasons and clearly lost the dressing room £#%&!ing ages ago. The board are shit for not reacting quicker, do wonder how much of this season has been spent thinking up a plan for once he’d been ousted though.

And yet woodward gave him a new contract in January. So, when did he become shit and when did he lose the dressing room?

It we don’t win trophies and get into the top four then top, marketable players won’t sign for us.

Do they actually understand that do they?

A capitalist business looking to maximise revenue and minimise costs you say.. why has no-one thought of this before? are you expecting the club to be run as some philanthropic exercise for our enjoyment/benefit?

He got a new contract by flirting with PSG and generally being a #@&%!, same as he did at all the other clubs at which he signed extensions shortly before ensuring himself the sack and huge payoff. More fool the club for employing him/falling for it. Seem to recall the team was already playing shit at that point, but I’d say the Seville game was the nadir. From then on it’s been about when, not if..

He was sacked shortly after the Norwegian season ended and Ole had no further commitments. Not sure what we can read into that.

He’s just a much, much nicer and more genuine bloke. It might not be the solution long term but is absolutely what is required after the miserable £#%&!ing virus that plagued the place for the last 2 1/2 years.
