I don't want to steal this article because it's brilliant and yes its behind a pay wall but sign up for the trial just for this article.

https://theathletic.com/969317/2019/...tion-of-colts/

It's the polar opposite of our current staff.

Or more likely he’s done it with phelan’s blessing.

Didn’t know that SAF wanted Choccy as DOF but the glazers stopped it happening?

Wasn't McClair quite useless as head of the academy or whatever it was he was doing? Hardly produced anyone ...

Begiristain has that much power because the man he reports to --- their Woodward --- is another Barcelona man. They all joined City at the same time.

They were being proactive. We are being reactive. But that Mitten confirms all the stories of ex players being linked with the job, there is some optimism in that.

Ole as manager, Phelan as assistant manager, Rio/Fletcher/Edwin/ as DOF...they know what a successful United requires and can bring that lineage back after six years of trying to become Everton/Ajax/Chelsea.

sounds to me like the "director of football" will simply be just there for show and not much else.

Worth adding Liverpool fans used to hate their ownership, the "moneyball" strategy and the fabled transfer committee that brought in flop after flop.

Now all of a sudden they love it. What's changed? Rodgers for Klopp, anything else?

Managers make the difference ultimately and hopefully Ole will be the manager who changes our fortune. The man knows the standard and you can tell in his interviews he has a clear idea of what is needed and what is not.

Woodward is the punching bag for the Glazers.

The new DOR will be a punching bag for Woodward

It's just insulation from public blame and somebody that can be sacked if it goes to shit in a few years.

Another paid nodding dog in a nominal ole.

Add to Ole, Ferie, Gill. At least Butty, Carrick and Mickey are trainers (allegedly)

Absolute state of it

They’ve apparently scrapped the transfer committee and have hired a sporting director.

Their owners wanted to do it under Rodgers but he wasn’t keen, Klopp on the other hand was all for it and had previously worked with a DoF at Dortmund.
