Toy and Hobby, blast from the past that. Always used to want a look in there when I was a kid and we went shopping in Manchester.

Bailey got the injury that forced him to retire in England training, iirc.

Have to laugh at Peter Barnes with an old England shirt on, presumably as he'd not been picked in years.

I'd like to take issue with the thread title.

While that collection's great for a bit of nostalgia, let's not pretend Manchester was in any way more aesthetically pleasing than it is now. Especially those f***ing buses.

I was only a nipper at the time so I don't really remember him. I remember seeing him under the stand in the scoreboard end(?) I think when I was about 7 or 8 and my dad pointing him out and telling me to get his autograph on our ticket stub.

Some cracking snaps on that page.

My Mum was manager of Mary Wright Superstaff on Mosley Street but neither of us remember the advertising lettering over their office.

Seftons - one of my favourite pubs in the mid-80s.

brilliant stuff. i used to love going on them little gm buses.

does anyone remember the little yellow british telecom vans? i've got a vivid childhood memory of being sat in my pushchair with my raincover on, eating chips outside tommy's chippy (top parenting ), and there being one of the yellow bt vans across the road.

christ, even my memories are f***ing dull.

balls. Orange on the outside (with two years' worth of mudsplattering on the lower half), brown on the inside.

School bus journeys were always brightened up by writing rude things on the dusty windows, which coincidentally allowed the interior to brighten up slighty as well.

Well, that and pressing that rubber strip on the ceiling twice and saying "It's the Playbus!"
