Don't think they'd put their prices up for Prime tbh. They have practically bottomless pockets from the amount of pies they've got their fingers in.

If they are serious about braodcasting live football game then they may end up making it an add-on service like they do with Music unlimited at some point.

The premier league really need to move onto streaming their own games in the future.

launch a netflix style service where they show every single game for a reasonable monthly fee.

We really need to move on as a country from this ridiculous model we have where we split the televised games between 3 different broadcasters and the rest we are reduced to sitting there watching another group of people watch the games and relay what's happening. It's utterly ludicrous.

Insert 'Won't someone think of the attendances?!' gif here.

Time will come when they let people in for free so it looks good on the tele.

Half the grounds are empty anyway and lets be honest the majority of the big teams games are already on TV.

They wont complain when they are getting additional money from Amazon.

Either way football is dead for numerous other reasons so who cares?

The people in charge of the model are the same people who implemented VAR after minimal testing. They're imbeciles, and nobody in the game has the interests of the game at heart. They're suits who know how to make a buck, and that's all they're interested in. Its why one of the biggest sports clubs in the world can put a rank amateur in charge. As long as the money keeps rolling in they don't care.

The infrastructure required would be colossal, and it’s not their business - they have no expertise. It would be a nightmare. Just because you could theoretically make more money by cutting out the middle man, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea if you don’t know what you’re doing. Plus there’s the conflict of interest.

Are the Amazon games 'additional' games or are Sky showing less games as a result of Amazon?

Well in theory you hire in the expertise. There are plenty of players in the streaming market who can build and maintain a platform. Its not that difficult. The PL would probably put Peter Crouch in charge of it though.

Streaming and the platform is the easy part, it’s getting it onto the stream that’s difficult. You need cameras everywhere, presenters, studios, production teams and so much more. You’re basically getting into huge industry you have no idea how to run, and that has nothing to do with your core business.

Plus the conflict of interest would be untenable. If SKY, BT and the rest of them had no restrictions on what they could do, can you imagine what football would look like? At the moment the Premier league accommodate them with restrictions to safeguard football and the clubs. If PremTV’s mandate was to maximise profit, in effect it would be in conflict with it’s own core model.

Do you think Amazon started by streaming football games?

Amazon's core business was selling books.

They didn't shy away from getting into other stuff and it's worked out OK for them.

They already have all but the studio and studio pundits. The Premier League already broadcasts games with commentary, these are the broadcasts which are often sold overseas. *It's why if someone was to stream the same game from various different networks across the globe, they will sometimes see the same broadcast with the same commentary team and sometimes the same Premier League branding on the broadcast.

There's also some networks that don't opt for the studio and pundit team and just show highlights from the first half, other games, or just show the pitch from a wide angle in the corner of the stadium.

There's no reason why they can't make that available to everyday folk as well as overseas networks.

You wouldn't have to do that. You'd just have to change the rules the next time the contracts of Sky, BT and the others run out. You force them to offer ppv per game with a max price. (no subscription). if they want to discount some games, then that's up to them. They still bid on packages, but they have to deliver the content on ppv.... yes, I understand that without subscription they'd have to be a bit more inventive... but that's capitalism folks...

I thought that the technical teams doing the broadcasting of the games, with all the associated paraphernalia were 3rd party companies anyway?
