VD finishing 2nd is a huge recognition in itself. Like saying that he was the best CB in the world by a long margin and an important player for Liverpool's UCL title. But best player in the world? Ha! Not with Messi, CR, Mbappé, De Jong, Salah, etc. around...It's like saying that Stam was a better player than Rivaldo in 1999, Terry was a better player than Ronaldinho in 2005 or Boateng a better player than CR in 2013. Just No.

Messi 2019 has the same extraordinary stats of his previous Balons d'Or, so it makes sense. I bet CR secretly regrets moving to Serie A.
